Overview

This is an interactive museum our class created to highlight the Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi. We also used this project to familiarize ourselves with the Agile Development Process. The museum itself consisted of 3 main interactive exhibits, each one with a sprint dedicated to creating it. We also had a 4th sprint to update our work and install the exhibits.

Our Process

The Agile Development Process

To create our Interactive Experience our team utilized the Agile Development Process. We broke our process down into 4 sprints which each had a different scrum master. Each sprint was broken down into tasks that were assigned to individuals and we estimated the amount of time each task would take.

Sprint 1

For our first sprint, our team focused on working with Altered Reality. We created 6 different AR experiences that each correlated with an Artemisia Gentileschi painting.

Sprint 3

Our third sprint was an exploration of mixed reality. Our team combined altered reality with projection to create a space where our users could interact with the characters from different Artemisia Gentileschi paintings.

Sprint 2

Our second sprint was focused on making participatory artwork. For this part of our exhibit we had a touchscreen with 3 different activities where visitors could be involved in the painting. Our first activity involved crating your own soundscape by clicking on different elements in Gentileschi's paintings. Our second activity you were able to change the weather on two of Gentileschi's paintings. Our third activity was a coloring page that was made from one of Artemisia Gentileschi's paintings.

I was in charge of managing the group for this sprint and it was important to me that I be encouraging but also that we have a finished product we are all happy with. Our team accomplished everything we had hoped to and got great feedback from users.

Reflection

Our class created an interactive museum entirely based around the Baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi. When we were assigned this project, our class found a collection of about 25 artists to go through. We each made a case for who we liked and what we could do with their work. Next, we narrowed down the artists to about 10. As we discussed the artists, we realized we felt it was vital to feature a female artist. All the artists who had interactive experiences themed around them that we could find were male.

Once our team determined our artist, we had to decide what interactive exhibits we wanted to include in our experience. Next, we did weeks of research into existing exhibits, accompanied by group brainstorming sessions and lessons on working in a company.
